Mikumi National Park Overview
Mikumi is one of Tanzania’s most accessible parks, located just a short drive from Dar es Salaam. It is often called the “mini Serengeti” because of its wide open plains and rich wildlife. Herds of elephants, zebras, buffalo, and wildebeest are easy to spot here, often grazing together in the savannah. Lions, leopards, and hyenas are also seen, while giraffes move gracefully across the flat grasslands.
The park is part of a larger ecosystem connected to Selous (Nyerere National Park), so animals move freely between them. This makes Mikumi an excellent place for game drives with high chances of sightings. It is a good option for travelers with limited time who want a real safari without long travel hours. The landscape of open plains, wooded hills, and the Uluguru Mountains in the distance adds to its beauty.
